Running again October 21, 2008

Well I decided to start running again. I have missed it, and while I still lack motivation I forced myself to use my treadmill after work tonight. Since it has been so long since I ran, I restarted the C25K program that I used in the past. Tonight was Week 1 Day 1. I went 1.17 miles in 20 minutes. Not bad considering how long it has been. My legs are a bit sore, but I feel really good because I finished the run. Now to keep it up.

An overdue update. March 3, 2008

A lot has happened since I last posted.

Yes I am still running, but I am considering changed from the half marathon planned in May to the 5k instead. I will still be traveling to Eugene to do it, but I think I will have more fun at the shorter distance. I am really really slow after all so it was going to take almost 4 hours to do the half. This way I can run the 5k (it will take about 50 minutes for me) and still be in a great mood for socializing with the KR crowd that will be there.

My sister had her baby. My niece Chloe Monroe was born on Feb 15th at 131 am. She is adorable. She has my dad’s chin, her dad’s nose, and blue eyes.

Last week my car was vandalized. I went to Wal-Mart and some kid asked me for some cash for gas. I said no and went in to the store. When I came out there was a rock sitting on my sunroof. The glass was shattered. It was safety glass so at least it did not go everywhere, but it needed to be replaced. My insurance is covering it because I have full glass so that is good, but it won’t be fixed for a few days so I am with out a car. *sigh*

I sort of took up a new hobby. I have a gps because of my running so I decided to try geocaching. You can learn more about it at www.geocaching.com. It is basically a grown up treasure hunt using GPS for the map. I have only found a few but I have had fun doing it. I might go out with a member of KR while in Eugene to search for a few there since I will be there for 4 days. At this point since I am going out alone, I am only going during the day and I won’t do any that are long hikes away from my car just for safety reason. So that means visits to local parks and greenbelts before work on the days I don’t run or on the weekends.

3 miles in 49:00 minutes. Not bad.

My pacing needs work. January 15, 2008

So to prepare to run Eugene I need to work on my pacing outside. To help with that I decided to do at least one run a week around my neighborhood. Today was day 1 of that endevor. I only managed a mile, but it was a fast (for me anyway) mile. 14:58 minutes. That is more then a minute faster then normal. I know if I had been running at my normal pace I would have hit my planned 3 miles without a problem. I felt pretty good to be running outside for a change. I am going to try to do a nice slow 2 miles after work tonight to get in my planned distance so I stay on track. I have 4 miles planned for Thursday and 6 miles planned for Saturday. I have yet to actually hit 6 miles, but I am getting closer each week.

Small Update to the site. January 14, 2008

I added a bunch of links to my site tonight. They are blogs that belong to a group called the 30’s that post on www.kickrunners.com. I consider them my online running club and I know with out their support I would not be where I am right now.

So I rearranged my schedule a bit to do my runs in the afternoons on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Today’s 2 miles went really well.

Well I did it. I got on my TM and ran. My legs hurt, but I feel great. It has been a while since I had a good run due to holidays, family, work and being sick.

I ran 4 miles in 1 hour and 10 minutes. Pretty slow pace, but I still feel really good about it. I wanted to do 6 miles but because of the poor training that was not going to happen so I stopped before I got to the point where it was no longer fun.

I am just letting you all know I am still alive and running. Just a bit too busy to post here or update my running log. I will have some updates in both places soon.

A long walk in the park. October 6, 2007

I ran/walked 7.00 miles in a little under 2 hours today. I actually only ran about 2 miles of it because my pacing still sucks. I could have walked further, but by the time I hit the 7 mile mark I was sweating like 10 whole men, I was sunburned on my shoulders, arms and legs, and I was out of Gatoraid.

I learned a few of lessons from this:

1. Don’t forget to put on sunscreen even if it is only 90 degrees outside.

2. Don’t wear your rings - my fingers swelled and I could not get them off for awhile after.

3. Bring more then 3 bottles of Gatoraid.

4. Next time get more then 2 hours of sleep before you decide to go out for a long run/walk.

I came back home, showered and passed out on the bed for about 4 hours. I am feeling pretty good right now. Minor aches in my legs, but nothing worse then normal after a run. The sunburn does hurt though. I can feel the heat radiating off my skin.

Well I did it. September 23, 2007

I registered for the Eugene Half-Marathon. I am insane. What was I thinking? Oh goodness I am now committed to running 13.1 miles in a state I have to take a plane to get to. My family won’t be able to come with me, so I will be traveling alone. There will be some folks from the 30’s online running group I belong to, so I won’t be totally alone, but the thought of what I just commit ed to doing is making me very nervous and a bit worried.
