My trip to Vegas June 8, 2006

So Monday after work I got on a plane with my sister and our friend Snow to head out to Vegas.  We landed at 11pm and went directly to Hart and Huntington at The Palms Hotel.  As shocking as it was we were able to get in that night for our tattoos.  I will post pictures of them in the next couple of days.  It was offically 06/06/06 when they were done.  Very cool.  *grin*  We then walked across the street to the Gold Coast Casino to check in and eat dinner.  After a great meal we sat down a a Pai Gow table for about 2 hours and played.

On Tuesday we headed out to the Stardust for some more fun and games.  We played for several hours and spent the early evening in the Jazz bar listening to some great music.   Then we went back to the Gold Coast, ate dinner and played Pai Gow for a bit.  Snow headed up to bed early so Cindi and I moved over to a Three Card poker table and played there for a bit.  After a few hours Cindi was about $60 up for the trip so far and I was about even.

On Wednesday morning we had Ice Cream and Starbucks for breakfast, checked out of the room and headed to the Rio for some shopping.  I got two new shirts, a cool bracelet that can cover my tat when I have job interviews, and a few other small items.  We then played some more cards.  I did pretty good at Let It Ride, and was ahead at Texas Hold’em when we headed back to the Gold Coast for dinner.  After dinner we had 2 hourse before we had to leave for the airport so we went to get in a few last minute games.  Snow went to play roulette while Cindi and I went to the poker room.

Cindi was out pretty early, but I was doing pretty good until I got a bad beat.  I had pocket aces so I raised pre-flop, but since it was a limit table, I could only raise so much.  I was unable to scare out the one caller.  He was in for $4 and I could only raise to $6.  The flop was 4-j-4.  At this point I know I have 2 pair aces up.  I bet, he calls.  The turn is a 5.  I bet, he calls.  The river was a k.  I bet, he of course calls.  We show the hands.  I was floored.  He called my pre-flop raise with a 4 - 9 off-suit.  He beat me with 3 of a kind.  Most players I know would never call a pre-flop raise with such a horrible hand, but low and behold he did.  I have had pocket Aces 3 times since I have been playing on a regular basis.  I know pocket aces is a great hand pre-flop but after that it can be beaten.  If I was playing in a no limit tourny I would have raised heavy pre-flop and that guy would never have called me.  Instead I was toasted.
